I gather this error is on purpose. You can configure it with MDT , prepare the image , apliaciones and inject drivers , and I proceed to apply the deployment?. He can't use the Windows 10 Enterprise image as OP stated he doesn't have a volume license agreement. I do agree with using MDT though - there's a task sequence in there to run an upgrade task sequence to take care of upgrading machines for you.

I definitely think there's something corrupted with your image. My first attempts to import the image on both my Windows 7 machine and Windows 10 machine had no issues - screenshot below:.

Took a while to figure this one out. I know this is "answered" but I wanted to drop this link here since it's the top thread on Bing I found. Looks like it's for shops that do upgrades or whatever, but it worked for me, it is currently importing.

I'd also read you could get it off the volume license site, but I did not see a Win10 image there for me. Don't know that it'll work for all situations, but we just needed and easier way to upgrade our Win7 pro machines. We'd been running around with thumb drives for test installs and didn't want to do that for the big push before August :. If I run into any unexpected issues making what I said here incorrect, I'll post back with an update. Seeing you started a bit earlier, do you have some insights on the process?

Things to look out for? Did you already ran some test rounds with MDT? Overall, it was painless to set up an upgrade task sequence. I just imported the media after grabbing it from the techbench site and created a new task sequence following the directions on the link I provided. This fires off the Wizard and you can choose your Windows 10 upgrade task sequence. After that it pretty much takes care of itself.

When it's done it just has the final summary and you can close that and log in. Obviously you'll want to test some with apps and stuff to make sure there aren't any surprises, but we've been pretty lucky so far with no issues.

We've already upgraded some production machines using the MDT task sequence. One thing to be careful about, make sure the Windows 7 is already activated. I've had a few new machines we set up to go ahead and upgrade and if we forgot to activate them they'd get an error. We also had a few with some driver issues and caused loop boots requiring a rollback to Windows 7 thankfully a supported feature, you get like a week to roll back if you have issues , I think I just need to add all the Windows 10 drivers to the share and update it to fix that.

The only other thing I'm having issues with is I'm trying to fully automate the deployment so we can select a handful of machines, push the update in the evening without manually remotely connecting and running the LiteTouch. Since we aren't an SCCM environment, it's not fully supported. They figure if you're big enough to need full automated deployment, you're big enough for SCCM :.

My initial attempt was to pass parameters for skipping the task sequence and summaries, but it kept failing. So then I created an additional CustomSettings. No go, tried it without skipping the summaries, and still no go. Not sure where to go from here or why it even acts different. At least it's less cumbersome to remote into machines and kick it off than to walk to each machine and insert a thumb drive.

The issue it's having is that after 10 is loaded and it boots into the OS for the first time, it doesn't finish the task sequence. I noticed once it was stuck at the login screen and had tried a bad password to log in, but I'm not sure if it does log in when manually running the task sequence.

So basically we normally find the bad ones sitting at the login screen. If I log in as the local admin account, it'll try to kick off the task sequence again, like it'll literally pop up and say a in progress task sequence has been found, and then it starts the Windows 10 deployment task sequence from the beginning within Windows EDIT: Ok, on further inspection of a manual run.

It never leaves the installing Windows 10 screen with the big circle that shows progress. As a side note, to pass parameters or a different CustomSettings. Call the LiteTouch. So automating is more complicated then it looks. If understand correctly the manual upgrade always runs fine? Because i don't have that many desktops to upgrade so if it runs completely without errors i will just start them manually.

Otherwise ill spend more time on fixing the errors then on actually upgrading. But skipping the clicks you have to make at the start should work with a custom. At least that's what i saw some guy do in a youtube video. Not sure what he is doing different though, ill try to find the video and link it here. One other thing, i don't suppose you tried to combine it with TPM and Bitlocker? Since TPM and Bitlocker are supposed to be really easy.

Any thoughts on that? Yes, manually worked fine. And I actually got a response from one of the MDT experts : Apparently the issue I'm having is a known bug when doing an upgrade task sequence that they plan to have worked out in the next version Current is MDT Update 2. I did determine I could just have my regular CustomSettings.

So instead of doing anything special, we just run the LiteTouch. Going to try my first deployment remotely this evening.

Luckily we're a small group so it's easy to just say, "Hey guys, you can only do Win10 upgrades right now. Yeah, that's how we did it. That was essentially the trick the whole time, just something weird about it. It's working now though using just the usual CustomSettings. I'm afraid I'm not sure about that, we don't use either here.

At my last place we did, but I didn't manage MDT there and they always just did Bitlocker config after the fact on laptops. I like to verify files referenced in scripts, and of course I found the windows home ISO created by the creation tool does not contain an install. I know how to manually move users profiles to another drive. At at all. Office Office Exchange Server.
